Summary:
This study aimed to understand how Panax ginseng, a traditional herbal treatment, affects cognitive performance and mental fatigue in healthy young adults. They tested 30 participants using a double-blind, placebo-controlled method. The participants were given either a placebo, 200mg of Panax ginseng, or 400mg of Panax ginseng, and then completed cognitive tasks and reported their mental fatigue levels.
They found that both doses of Panax ginseng caused a significant decrease in blood sugar levels. The lower dose (200mg) improved performance on a mental task and reduced feelings of mental fatigue, while the higher dose (400mg) did not show these effects. This suggests that Panax ginseng may improve cognitive performance and reduce mental fatigue during sustained mental activity, possibly due to its effect on blood sugar levels.
